Many have come alongside Carolyn by offering words of encouragement, appropriate quotations, prayers, and the truth of Scripture. Please include your own comments below.

Initial reactions:
“My word.” ~ Morgan
“Pole sana.” ~ Josh
“YUCK!”~ Becky
“Damn.” ~ Marian
“Cancer sucks!” ~ Bev
“Well, this sucks!” ~ Katie
“F***!!!!!!” ~ anonymous (a.k.a. My Christian Friend Who Is Sad She Acts And Talks So Ugly)

“God gets us ready for the inevitable storms that hit us in life, and His perfect peace during those crazy times is evidence of that fact. He’s got it all under control.” ~ Betsy

“It is also okay to be sad, mad, and confused and to express that. Know that it’s okay to be indignant sometimes! Our Old Testament Job was.” ~ Shelly

“May the Lord continue to remind you that He loves you with an everlasting love. He is near to those who call on His name. He is with you, He goes before you. His mercies are new everyday. His faithfulness is great.” ~ Sharon

Joan sent a quote by Rick Warren, author of The Purpose Driven Life, whose wife has battled cancer. “No matter how good things are in your life, there is always something bad that needs to be worked on. And no matter how bad things are in your life, there is always something good you can thank God for.”

Kacey said she was reminded of the quote, “Faith is knowing there is an ocean because you have seen a brook.”

“God loves us so perfectly and completely, better than we can love. He’s got you covered. At this point, I would think of this as just more crap you have to do over the next couple weeks or months. You know, like when you get a ticket or have a fender bender and now you have to deal with extra errands and phone calls. This isn’t what you planned for your August and September, and it’s all going to be a pain in the ass, but I know it will work out. Don’t forget you are allowed to miss a soccer game or two for sanity’s sake. Embrace the ‘No!’ to things to do and ‘Yes!’ to help!!” ~ Alicia

“We are praying for you and remembering praying for Silas when he was a baby. God will use your family in a mighty way for his glory!” ~ Karen

“Out, damn’d spot! out, I say!” (Lady Macbeth, Shakespeare) ~ Melony

“Two years ago, we promised each other we wouldn’t let each other skip a mammogram. I am thankful that you have been to a doctor.” ~ Tabitha

“A simple ‘Bless Yer Heart’ won’t cut it this time, will it? How about a commitment to pray as you walk this unexpected, unwanted path? (I DO think that once you’ve licked this that a celebratory reunion in Kenya is in order!)” ~ Becky

Chuck reminded us of the sweet truth found in Philippians 4:13.

Sheryl sent a verse from Psalms 34, “He freed me from all my fears.”

Carrie remembered Psalm 29:11, “The Lord gives strength to his people; the Lord blesses his people with peace.”

The title of the blog was inspired by the Joshua passage both Melony and Cindy sent.

God bless you, Carolyn. Your thoughts and words are so inspiring already. My sister had lobular cancer in both breasts in 2008. She’s doing remarkably well now. You and Paul and the whole family will be in my prayers.

Hang in there with all those follow-up visits. If they give you exercises to do, work through the pain. You’ll be glad you did later. Love ya!

Hiya Carolyn – I’m not surprised by the humor with which you are approaching this. Your ability to laugh in a dark moment is such a good example for me to follow. I’ll be praying for you, but I know you’re going to be fine!

Carolyn, I just learned that you have breast cancer. I am so sorry and will pray for you each day—you have an army of people praying for you. I was diagosed in June of 2009 and appear to be doing well. Keep the Faith and know that you are so loved by me and countless others. Your faith and prayers and the prayers of others will get you through this journey.

    Love,

    Judy

Hey Carolyn! Thanks for keeping us informed with your blog and thanks for being bold and putting your story out there for all to see. It looks as though you have a remarkable support structure there and the strength of the Lord sustaining you. Hang in there!

P.S. A little scoop of Peanut Butter puts that delicious protein shake mentioned earlier over the top….just a tip from a connoisseur!

It was an absolute shock to see you in your green hat today and to learn there was only very short hair under there! And even more amazing – was your totally real, totally dear attitude – emanating love and joy – for life and God and others. Girl, it was inspiring and fun to see you – and Joan! I have placed your order for the cross and will be thinking of you!

    Love ya, Anna Neal

    Dear Ms. Carolyn,
I don’t know you but my mom does. I am the daughter of Doris Matal and the niece of Ben Freeman. I will be sending you a painting that I made a couple of days ago. My mom told me about you and that’s when I decided to paint it. I am so proud of you for going through all of this as such a champ. I think of you as an awesome person.
    Love,
    Maddie

      Hi Maddie,
I can’t wait to receive your painting. I’m sure it’s fabulous. I think *YOU* sound like an awesome person! I know for a fact that your mom and uncle are awesome people, and your grandmother was an awesome person, so I imagine you inherited quite a bit of their awesome-ness. I’ve seen pictures of you, and you *look* pretty awesome! I look forward to meeting you one day soon!
      Love, Ms. Carolyn
