About me

I am a wife, mother, daughter, friend, writer, and former missionary, who was diagnosed with breast cancer (invasive mammary carcinoma with dual—ductal and lobular—differentiation, to be precise) on August 12, 2010. Fourteen days later, I had breast-conserving surgery to remove a very small (1-mm) malignant tumor in my left breast. I had a second surgery on September 10, 2010 in which excess tissue at the tumor site was removed to achieve the standard 2-mm margin. I started chemotherapy on October 15, 2010. Were it not for an annual mammogram, my tumor would have grown and required much more aggressive treatment, or worse.

My God who loves me far more than I can comprehend is in control. He loves my husband and children more than I could ever hope to. I may not understand why I have breast cancer, but I know I can trust the one who created me and who went to a whole lot of trouble to redeem me. He could heal me instantly, or He could use the hands and wisdom of human doctors over the course of weeks and months, just as He faithfully and completely healed Silas’s heart in 2001. I have no reason to fear.

Busch Gardens, Williamsburg, VA. August 7, 2010.

I live in Raleigh, North Carolina with my husband Paul and two children, Lily (age 12) and Silas (age 10).

I have cancer. I also have great peace.
